MILFORD CARGO BARRIERS NEWS & ARTICLES
Fleet
owners of the popular large commercial vans have become more aware of all
the advantages of installing cargo barriers in their vehicles, according
to a Sydney automotive accessory specialist.
Phil Brown, of Van Extras, said most fleet operators had workplace safety personnel who realised their obligations under government regulations to employees. At the same time, these company managers had figured out the benefits to their organisations in practical terms of employee and vehicle down-time. "Obviously, the fleet managers have become aware of a bonus factor. They've figured that a safety barrier in a van or wagon gives them a 'forward wall', against which goods can be stacked, resulting in increased capacity and efficiency when it comes to deliveries of their products," said Mr Brown. "We've heard of numerous accidents where the van driver has been saved from death or injury by the safety barrier in his vehicle. But fitting an Australian Standards approved cargo barrier also makes great economic sense for businesses." Sales of commercial vans such as the Ford Transit, Mercedes and Iveco range continue to rise consistently, according to safety barrier manufacturer, Milford Industries, of Adelaide. Strong advocates of cargo barriers, Milford started with a Telecom (now Telstra) contract about 20 years ago and have been at the forefront of development of the vehicle safety barrier industry. They now have a network of distributors and retail fitting outlets across Australia. All their cargo barriers meet the Australian Standards criteria and are labelled accordingly. The Milford Industries research and development team is constantly releasing new model barriers for the light commercial vans, as well as smaller vans, station wagons and four wheel drives.
