COIL SPRINGS
Improved coil springs of either heavier rating or a different design
will also improve handling and comfort. Always ask the advice of a suspension
specialist who can recommend the spring and damper package to suit your
vehicle and tyre use.
 Lowering
vehicles by changing the coil springs to that of a reputable aftermarket
manufacturer will further aid handling, but could harm the comfort factor
in some models and makes. At no time should the coils be cut or modified.
The wheel alignment should be changed every time different coil springs
are fitted. Wheel alignments are important to improved handling and correct
tyre wear.
When a vehicle does a large amount of towing, the suspension specialist
may recommend heavier coil springs at the rear to support the extra weight.
An option in this situation is fitting Polyair (air bags) inside the rear
coil springs, which allows adjustment of the rear spring rate. This is
very popular with Commodores, 4WDs and many other makes of sedans and
station wagons.
